Matthews & Jones, LLP is pleased to announce the hiring of two new lawyers in its Destin office — Mr. Daniel C. O’Rourke and Ms. Christa P. Diviney — to enhance the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Mr. O’Rourke and Ms. Diviney bring a combined 30-plus years of litigation experience and relationships that will benefit the firm and its clients.
“Dan and Christa are both experienced attorneys who will strengthen the firm’s Litigation Practice Group,” said Tom Hoffer, managing partner of the Litigation Practice Group. “They are long-time residents of the Emerald Coast who know how to provide the client service and counsel that Matthews & Jones has provided for decades,” Mr. Hoffer added.
Daniel C. O’Rourke
Mr. O’Rourke has been practicing law in Florida for over 20 years and focuses on general civil and commercial litigation in the state and federal trial and appellate courts of northwest Florida. As a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit & Family Mediator, Mr. O’Rourke also helps clients create practical and livable resolutions of disputes. In his mediation practice, Mr. O’Rourke works with clients and their attorneys to resolve a vast array of disputes in circuit-civil and family matters.
The youngest of five children, Mr. O’Rourke is a native of Florida and has lived in northwest Florida since 1969. He is the son of Lt. Col (USAF Ret) Michael J. and Julie M. O’Rourke. Mr. O’Rourke attended the Universities of West Florida and Florida for his undergraduate education. Mr. O’Rourke graduated from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1994 with a juris doctorate, and was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1995.
Mr. O’Rourke’s current practice includes: general civil and commercial litigation, probate, construction law, debtor/creditor law, real estate litigation, and circuit-civil and family mediation.
Mr. O’Rourke is also active as a lector at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach and the Knights of Columbus.
Christa P. Diviney
Prior to joining Matthews & Jones, Ms. Diviney worked for nine years prosecuting computer crimes and crimes against children in the 14th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s office based out of Panama City. Ms. Diviney also briefly practiced with a Fort Walton Beach firm in civil litigation, including construction, real estate and bankruptcy, while continuing to work with the State Attorney’s office. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ms. Diviney worked for more than a decade as a Clinical Trial Research Manager for a northwest Florida neurology practice.
Ms. Diviney moved to the Emerald Coast in 1974. Ms. Diviney is a Florida Board Certified Criminal Trial Attorney, with extensive litigation experience including over 70 jury trials in Florida Courts.
Ms. Diviney volunteers with local charities, museums, artists, and advocacy centers. Ms. Diviney also speaks to civic and community groups on a myriad of legal topics.
Ms. Diviney’s practice includes civil litigation and criminal defense.
